Robert’s rumors and crashes!

July 27th, 2010 by annie

Hi and welcome to discussions with Annie!

Today Twi fans I have heard from more than one source that Robert Pattinson is confirmed for the Teen Choice Awards, so that rumor is no longer a rumor.

And what about the rumor that he and Kristen Stewart have split up. Well we were never sure in the first place if they were together so take this one with a pinch of salt.

But what is true is that he is currently filming Water for Elephants with Reese Witherspoon.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSJymdAwDqU&NR=1 Rob and Pierce Brosnan talking to each other.

Also I hear that a car accident happened while Robert was driving in California recently. Apparently Robert was leaving to head home after an outing with friends when a paparazzi gang came at him cameras a flashin’ which caused him to crash (probably “bump” would be a better word here) into a bystanders car. Robert is denying the incident happened  apparently but the owner of the car has said that he was not upset and that maybe Robert would give him tickets to the next movie. Anyone else more litigious than this fine gentleman would be suing by now. According to waleg.com this is what happened…

“Recently, Rob crashed his car whilst leaving his friends house in Malibu. As he was driving out of the house a bunch of vultures attacked him (paparazzi) making it impossible for him to see, which resulted in him hitting a car of an innocent bystander, who has no complains that a hotshot celebrity bumped his car. Rob and friend were enjoying a peaceful day, going to the cinema, and then hanging out; too bad his day was ruined.”

And just to cheer you up as you wait for the next movie, here is some random Rob for you . Enjoy!

Take care,     Annie   :)

Summer hits!

July 17th, 2010 by annie

Hi and welcome to Discussions with Annie!

Now, you could be forgiven for saying that The Twilight Saga Eclipse is a summer hit. Well in many ways it is, but the truth be told when all is counted and tallied up I think you will find that it has probably not done as well as New Moon.  Even though Eclipse was a better movie in some ways, the anticipation of the second sequel was not as frantic as was for the first sequel New Moon. That’s because New Moon followed the hugely popular Twilight. Those that follow now - Breaking Dawn - parts one and two will also I feel, be a bit of an anti climax in the box office if the right script and director is not involved.

It all depended on Eclipse reaching that coveted $250 million dollar mark for it’s opening and subsequent weekends box office takings. Did it?…not  exactly sure as reports vary but it was close. But it looks like it’s not going to be the runaway train that New Moon was. Reports from around the world are coming in too that Eclipse is not doing as well as New Moon did for it’s first two weekends. On home soil, this was probably due to the fourth of July celebrations falling on that same weekend.

Still I would say the takings were not paltry by any means and so it was a hit in my book. Another hit was Taylor Lautner’s abs on view for his new movie Abduction, being filmed in Pittsburgh, PA. That boy may not be a walk away Joe in Eclipse but he sure can walk away in a way we like very much.  Keep walkin’ Taylor.

And not to be out done by her male co-stars, Kristen Stewart shows off her new dress style (this one I would call style) and her new auburn locks are piled up to show off the dress to it’s fullest potential. This dress is definitely a hit. And that smile adds a nice touch to an oft times somber face.

So as the cast take a break from the Twilight Saga for a while, I ask if the Saga has reached it’s peak and is now going to be looking forward to a lesser spotted gravy train for the final two movies. Well Twi friends…we can only wait and see.

Take care of yourselves, until next time,  Annie    :)

Eclipse…a review!

July 7th, 2010 by annie

Hi and wecome to Discussions with Annie!

By now Twi fans, the whole planet-well the part that cares anyway-has seen the third installment of The Twilight Saga- Eclipse.

All hopes were pinned once again on the three stars, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner to carry this movie, not to mention Director David Slade, whose musical video expertise we hoped would represent for the first time, the true essence of the books by author Stephenie Meyer.

Did that happen?

Well let’s see.

First of all David Slade was better than Chris Weitz in terms of what was needed action wise. Yeah, he pulled off the action…if your eyes were fast enough to see it. But I got the impression the best sequences were left on the cutting room floor, compared to the romance which should have been left on the cutting room floor.

Mac made a very good comment I think about Eclipse. She said that nobody would have minded the extra half hour of movie if it meant not sacrificing the true ebb and flow of the story. The pace was again disjointed and clipped to hell and back. The fight scenes were great but not enough was put into the build up to these scenes. The wolves looked better but still…I did not feel like I was amongst some terrifying creatures and I could not tell them apart. I almost missed the bit where Emmett and the Paul wolf began to work together and saved each others lives. The CGI needed James Cameron for sure.

And don’t get me started on the acting.

Is it the subject matter? - Is it the fact that the majority viewing demographic is below mid teens? - Or could it be that the actors are just bad at their job.

To be fair…I saw Remember Me with Robert Pattinson and was surprised at the acting skill but then again he was supported by two craftsmen. Chris Cooper is an exceptional actor and Pierce Brosnan can turn his hand to anything.

However it is clear to me that without the kind of Director who can leech, beg and coerce the best performance from the cast, or the actors themselves who pay more attention to their craft instead of their fame I can’t see Breaking Dawn part one and two being any better. The performances of the three stars of The Twilight Saga is sadly not improving.

The constipated attempts by Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner to show emotion made me cringe. It is clear that they may well have no life experience to draw on to fulfill this role. So far I have not seen their best work. They talk the talk all right but they can’t walk the walk.

I thought little Jodelle Ferland who played Bree Tanner was enchanting in her small part.

Now it could be said that if you have yellow ochre or red contacts in, you will not be able to convey much in the way of emotion. The eyes after all are the windows to the soul. So I will excuse all vampires this time.  Most were under used anyway, especially Dakota Fanning who failed to shine in this movie as she had little to do. But everyone else contacts or no, turned in a weak performance at best.

So to recap -

Loved the fight scenes but they were cut to within a millimeter of comprehension at times.

Hated the acting in terms of the emotional scenes. The actors are probably too young to convey this slice of exquisite misery that we laughingly call love.

The CGI wolves were better but still didn’t like them.

The musical score was better in that I didn’t notice it and that’s as it should be. The New Moon score was  a miss mash of ill suited oddities.

It, for me remains to be said - Twilight was and still is the shining beacon, the proud and valiant flagship of The twilight Saga. Everything worked - the music - the actors - the story and the exceptional Director Catherine Hardwicke. While I may watch Eclipse again to give it a fair hearing as it were, but in the years to come, Twilight is the only one I will be watching over and over.

My friend Mac will not agree with most of what I have said and I defend her right to have her opinion. She had a blast this last weekend and you must check out her blog on Eclipse at www.twilightmovies.org

What did you think of Eclipse?

Until next time …take care of yourselves.

Eclipse is a hit!

July 1st, 2010 by annie

Hi and welcome to Discussions with Annie!

Well as expected Twi fans…The Twilight Saga Eclipse has according to Examiner.com surpassed it’s predecessor New Moon in the midnight box office showing of the second sequel. The movie took in over $30 million dollars in the United States alone for it’s midnight showing and the numbers are still being counted. Summit Entertainment will be well pleased indeed.

Here’s what the fans had to say.

Catch you guys next time when the full tally is in and of course my opinion of the movie.

Check out Mac and Ruth’s blog for their opinions too. www.twilightmovies.org/

Take care talk soon,
